Stoke City have announced the signing of former Barcelona winger Ibrahim Afellay to a two-year contract. The 29-year-old Dutchman spent last season on loan at Olympiakos before his contract with Barcelona expired this summer.
"It's no secret that Ibrahim was wanted by a number of clubs and we are understandably delighted that he has chosen to join us," chief executive Tony Scholes said. "He's clearly excited about the prospect of playing in the Premier League and the fact that he knows so many players who are already at the Club will no doubt help him settle into his new surroundings."
In his five years with Barcelona, Afellay made 21 league appearances while also spending a year on loan at Schalke. The Dutchman now joins countryman Marco van Ginkel as one of the club's eight signings this summer.
