Real Madrid forward Alvaro Morata confirmed Chelsea placed a £60million bid for him this summer, but it was his dream to return to Madrid after his former club activated his buyback clause in his deal with Juventus.
"Chelsea showed the most interest," Morata said. "Conte had already signed me for Juventus and it was a very good offer this time. I would have been the most expensive Spanish player ever.
"They offered roughly 70 million Euros, but Real Madrid said they had me in their plans and that was always my dream."
Chelsea and Conte went on to sign Marseille's Michy Batshuayi while allowing Radamel Falcao and Loic Remy to leave the club with Diego Costa remaining the club's top option up front.
