Manchester United midfielder Angel Di Maria told "Sky Sports" that he will be joining Paris Saint-Germain in a deal expected to be worth £44million after a long stand-off with Manchester United that spanned the summer.
“I am very happy to join Paris Saint-Germain," Di Maria said after taking a medical with the club's representatives in Qatar onTuesday. "What I know about PSG is that they are a team who have won all possible titles in France last season. They're very important."
The 27-year-old had already been fined two weeks' wages (£360,000) for failing to report to United preseason training this week as he looked to force through a move to PSG, who were limited in their pursuit last summer due to Financial Fair Play before his British transfer-record-breaking £59.7million move to Old Trafford. But Louis van Gaal was resigned to let the Argentine go in the end.
"They made it to the quarter-finals of the Champions League so my objective was to arrive to Paris and to help them through the quarter-final barrier, because they have struggled in the past two seasons," Di Maria said. "I will try to do the best I can to help the club in those objectives and reach the final stages of the Champions League."
